Northwestern Lands Three on All-Big Ten Team

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern has landed a trio of individuals on the All-Big Ten Women's Tennis Team as voted on by the conference's head coaches.

Seniors Erin Larner (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) and Maddie Lipp (Lake Forest, Ill./Lake Forest) as well as junior Lee Or (Kfar Saba, Israel/Galili) all were named to the 14-member All-Big Ten team. Larner and Lipp were unanimous selections to the squad.

By virtue of the recognition, Larner becomes just the seventh player in school history to be named All-Big Ten all four years and the first since Belinda Niu (2011-14). Lipp earns the third All-Big Ten honor of her career while Or receives the recognition for the first time.

Larner's stellar senior season has seen her post a 16-2 dual match record in singles and a 17-3 dual match mark in doubles to date. She currently is ranked No. 38 by the ITA in singles and No. 4 alongside Lipp in doubles. Playing at No. 1 in the NU lineup at both spots, she went undefeated during the Big Ten season in both singles (9-0) and doubles (8-0), making her the first Northwestern player to go unbeaten in both since 2009. Despite all the success as well as being the only Big Ten athlete to be chosen to compete in both the NCAA Singles and Doubles Championship, she curiously was not awarded the Big Ten Athlete of the Year honor.

Lipp also has enjoyed a terrific senior campaign. She and Larner rose to No. 1 in the nation in doubles earlier this season and she'll participate in the NCAA Doubles Championship for the third time in her career after competing alongside Alex Chatt each of the last two years. Lipp has gone 17-5 in singles in dual match action and currently boasts a No. 78 national ranking. She has a dazzling 106-36 career record in doubles and has amassed 75 career singles victories.

Or's season has been a breakthrough one for the junior. Splitting time between each of the top three spots in Northwestern's singles lineup, she has amassed 15 singles wins this season, including 12 in dual match play with an 8-3 mark against Big Ten foes. Or has teamed with Chatt this season in doubles with the duo posting a 13-2 dual match record while earning a No. 37 national ranking. Together, they were selected as alternates for the NCAA Doubles Championship.

Or also was honored as Northwestern's recipient of the Big Ten Sportsmanship Award. The student-athletes chosen to receive the honor are individuals who have distinguished themselves through sportsmanship and ethical behavior. These student-athletes must also be in good academic standing and have demonstrated good citizenship outside of the competition setting.

Northwestern (21-5) went a perfect 11-0 during the Big Ten regular season in winning the conference title outright. The Wildcats will be the No. 14 overall seed for the NCAA tournament which gets underway next week. NU will serve as one of 16 hosts for the opening two rounds of the tournament. The 'Cats open up against Buffalo at 3 p.m. Friday, May 11 following a noon match between Kentucky and Kansas State.

This is the first time since the Big Ten began keeping regular season conference standings in 1996 that neither the Athlete of the Year nor the Coach of the Year came from an undefeated conference champion.
