Roberts Shatters 5000M School Record At NCAA Prelims

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sophomore Aubrey Roberts lowered her own 5000M school record by 17-seconds on Saturday night under the lights at Hornet Stadium in the NCAA West Preliminary hosted by Sacramento State.

Roberts' time of 15:53.85 would have qualified her for the NCAA Championships at historic Hayward Stadium in Eugene, Oregon, in any previous year.

Northwestern was one of only two cross country-only programs in the nation to qualify runners to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Preliminaries this spring. In addition to Roberts, classmate Kelly O'Brien ran a 4:29.85 in the 1500M on Friday evening.

"We're so proud of all that Aubrey and Kelly accomplished this season, from cross country, through the indoor campaign, and now culminating in the outdoor postseason," said head coach 'AHavahlah Haynes. "Aubrey executed her technical race plan near perfectly, it was just extremely fast. We can't wait to get back to cross country in the fall."
