"Both women are in a great spot right now in terms of fitness and confidence," said head coach 'AHavahla Haynes. "From this point forward time doesn't matter as much, it's all about placement."

O'Brien will get things started for the Wildcats on the first day of competition, Thursday, May 24, in the 1500M. The event is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. PT. The Palatine, Illinois, native earned her spot in the field with a school-record 4:24.46 at the Oxy Invitational. To advance from Thursday's quarterfinal to Saturdays semis, she will need to place in the Top-5 of her heat, or run one of the four fastest (non-Top-5) times of the event. The Top-5 in the two semifinal heats, and the next two fastest competitors, will punch their ticket to Oregon.

Roberts will represent the Wildcats in the 5000M, earning the No. 31 seed thanks to her 16:10.05 run at the Stanford Invitational in March. She also posted a qualifying time in the 10K at April's Mt. Sac Relays, but has opted to not participate in the event. The 5000M race will take place on Saturday evening, and because of the size of the field and length of the event, will be the only time those student-athletes have to run.

"We are extremely proud of the work that Aubrey and Kelly have put in during the season and it's all culminating at this special time for them," Haynes continued. "A Northwestern student-athlete hasn't run at this meet in four years and we are the only cross country-only program in the nation to qualify runners to the regional championships."

A total of 120 teams, spanning from Illinois to Hawaii, will be competing in the NCAA West Preliminary with athletes looking for a chance to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Each individual event will have 48 entries with the top 12 moving on to the finals at historic Hayward Stadium in Eugene, Ore.
