EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern will face tournament-hosts Iowa in the first round of the Big Ten Championships Thursday morning. As the eighth and ninth seeds in the bracket, the squads will compete to face top seed Ohio State in the second round. The action will take place at the Hawkeye Tennis & Recreation Center at 10 a.m. CT.
The two teams faced off earlier in the season in a dual match that Iowa took by a score of 4-1. Dominik Stary picked up the win for the 'Cats, while Nick Brookes and AJ Joshi each led in the third set but did not finish their matches.
Brookes finished the season with 10 dual wins on the campaign, including five in Big Ten play, both of which were good for the team lead. Stary is the lone Wildcat ranked in the national polls, coming in at No. 124 for singles this week.
Last season, Chicago's Big Team made it to the quarterfinals of the competition before falling to No. 4 seed Wisconsin. Ohio State enters the weekend as a clear favorite, having just won its 13th-straight regular season conference championship.
