Mao, Matsubara Pace 'Cats On Moving Day At Big Tens

MAINEVILLE, Ohio – Juniors Janet Mao and Monica Matsubara fired even-par 72's on Saturday to climb into the Top-20 after two rounds of the 2018 Big Ten Women's Golf Championship at TPC River's Bend (Par-72; 6,357 yards).

Mao posted the steadiest second round of the Wildcats, playing both the front and back-nine at even par, with one birdie and one bogey per side. She finished with a flourish, reaching the green in two on the Par-5, No. 18, and leaving herself a tap-in for birdie to finish off the 72.
Matsubara was similarly balanced, opening 2-over with bogeys on Nos. 1&2, before finishing the front-nine with back-to-back birdies on Nos. 8&9. The Singapore native also provided one of the day's highlights with a 30-footer up a hill and over a ridge for birdie on the 410-yard, Par-4 No.14.
All six Wildcats are in the Top-41 after 36 holes, with Northwestern one of only two teams that could claim as such following two rounds.
The Wildcats will play Sunday's final round alongside Illinois and Purdue. Sarah Cho will get things started for Northwestern at 8:54 a.m. ET, followed in nine-minute increments by Brooke Riley, Hannah Kim, Matsubara, Mao and Stephanie Lau.

TPC River's Bend is hosting the Big Ten Women's Golf (#B1GWGolf) Championships for the second consecutive spring. It was named by Golf Digest among the "Top 10 Best New Private Clubs in the U.S." after it opened in 2001. The Arnold Palmer-designed course also has been recognized as one of Ohio's Best Courses in State by Golf Digest in 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2015 and 2016.
The course has previously hosted the Web.com Tour's Chiquita Classic, the PGA TOUR Champions Kroger Classic, and the Junior PGA Championship.Complementing the golf course is an expansive, 12-acre practice facility featuring multiple chipping and putting areas.
