EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern returns to the diamond on Tuesday, April 3, when it hosts cross-town foe UIC at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park for a 3 p.m. CT first pitch.
Northwestern (8-14) is coming off a 1-2 weekend at Maryland, dropping the final two games of the series by a run. The Wildcats looked to first year Quinn Lavelle on Friday in the opener. Lavelle threw a complete-game shutout, while striking out a career-high eight batters, to lead Northwestern to a 4-0 victory. Lavelle was named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for his performance, becoming the first Northwestern rookie to earn the honor since 2012.
UIC (15-10) enters the midweek contest with the 'Cats on a five-game skid. The Flames were swept over the weekend at Youngstown State after dropping games versus Oakland and NIU. Scott Ota leads the club with a .320 batting average and .485 slugging percentage.
Northwestern will start LHP Sam Lawrence.
Alex Erro and Jack Dunn continue to lead Northwestern at the plate. Erro is hitting a team-high .310, while Dunn boasts a .300 average. Erro is in the midst of a 14-game hit streak and currently is the toughest player to strikeout in the Big Ten, fanning once every 14 at-bats. Senior Jack Claeys has found the sweet spot at the plate. Claeys, who is hitting .277 on the season with a .508 slugging percentage, has belted four home runs in the last six games – including his first-career multi-homer game on Saturday, March 31, at Maryland.

Northwestern returns to Big Ten play on Friday, April 6, which it welcomes Michigan to Rocky and Berenice Miller Park for a three-game set. Michigan enters the week on a 12-game winning streak. The Wildcats and Wolverines only met in the Big Ten Tournament last season as the seventh-seeded Wildcats upset No. 2 Michigan, 6-4, in the opening round.
