EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern senior Erin Larner (Portland, Ore./Jesuit) is the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week the conference office announced Tuesday. It is the fourth such honor of her career and her second this season.
Larner remained undefeated in both singles (7-0) and doubles (5-0) in Big Ten play this season in leading the Wildcats to a pair of road wins over the weekend.
The senior paired with Maddie Lipp as the nation's fourth-ranked doubles team posted a 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles at Michigan State Saturday before surrendering only two games to Aslina Chua in a convincing 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.
In a huge battle of Big Ten unbeatens at Michigan on Sunday, Larner helped NU gain sole possession of first place. She again teamed with Lipp in rolling to a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles before taking down 29th-ranked Kate Fahey 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1 singles as the 'Cats improved to 8-0 in the Big Ten.
Larner is ranked No. 35 in the nation by the ITA in singles this week while maintaining a No. 4 ranking in doubles with Lipp. In dual match play, she has a 13-1 singles record -- including winning her last 10 matches -- while sporting a 12-2 mark in doubles.
Northwestern (15-4, 8-0 Big Ten) closes out its regular-season home slate this weekend, hosting Wisconsin at 11 a.m. Saturday and Minnesota at 11 a.m. Sunday.
