'Cats Improve to 5-0 in Big Ten with Shutout of Rutgers

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Ninth-ranked Northwestern ran its Big Ten record to a perfect 5-0 by trouncing Rutgers, 7-0, Sunday at Combe Tennis Center.
The Wildcats (13-4, 5-0 B1G) remained one of two undefeated Big Ten teams along with Michigan. Northwestern travels to Ann Arbor to face the Wolverines next Sunday following a match at Michigan State Saturday.
NU had little trouble against the Scarlet Knights. The Wildcats won the doubles point thanks to wins on all three courts. The 22nd-ranked team of Alex Chatt and Lee Or moved up to the top spot in the lineup, earning a 6-2 win. Julie Byrne and Rheeya Doshi also jumped up a spot to No. 2, notching a 6-3 victory. At No. 3, first-year Caroline Pozo teamed with senior Erin Larner, rolling to a 6-1 triumph.
The momentum carried over to singles. Ranked No. 50, Larner was dominant atop the lineup, rolling to a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mingxiu Du. Maddie Lipp (No. 51) remained red-hot as she cruised past Chloe Lee, 6-2, 6-2, putting Northwestern up 3-0 in the match.
Inci Ogut clinched the victory for the Wildcats by posting a straight-sets win of her own at No. 6, defeating Isabelle Da Silva 6-3, 6-2. NU also got wins from 92nd-ranked Or at No. 3 (6-2, 6-4), Julie Byrne at No. 4 (6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (6)) and Alex Chatt at No. 5 (7-6 (2), 6-1).
The performance marked Northwestern's fifth shutout win of the season.
