PALO ALTO, Calif. – Northwestern volunteer assistant coach Peter Callahan won the 1500M Invitational at Friday's Stanford Invite, crossing the line in 3:38.41. The Evanston native finished more than a second ahead of the runner-up in a tight heat where less than two seconds separated second and seventh-place.

Callahan, who joined the Wildcats staff in February, attended North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka before moving on to Princeton University. While competing at Princeton, Callahan anchored the winning distance medley relay at the 2013 NCAA Indoor Championships and earned Top-5 results in the 1500M at the 2014 and 2015 NCAA Outdoor Championships while studying for his master's degree at the University of New Mexico. He also represented Team USA at the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships in the 1500M.

He competes internationally for Belgium, including an appearance at the 2016 European Athletics Championships.

Callahan was joined in Palo Alto on Friday by Wildcats sophomore Aubrey Roberts, who ran a blazing 16:10.04 in the 5000M, a personal best that knocked an astonishing 11-seconds off the Northwestern record in her outdoor track season debut.
