Bales to Be Inducted Into IWCOA Hall of Fame

EVANSTON, Ill. — Joei Bales of the Class of 1989 has been selected as an inductee into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association Hall of Fame.

Bales, who passed away in 2008 at the age of 41, will be inducted into the Hall of Fame alongside 15 other members in the class of 2018.

Bales graduated from Joliet Central High School in 1985 and saw remarkable success in his junior and senior seasons, claiming two Illinois State Championships in 1984 and 1985.

His success continued at Northwestern, where he was a two-time Big Ten runner-up, placed as high as fifth in the NCAA Wrestling Championships, and was an All-American in 1988.

The Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association was founded in 1971 and focuses on coaches and officials working mutually together, as well as recognizing talent and accomplishments of Illinois wrestlers.

The 2018 Hall of Fame induction ceremony is scheduled to take place Sunday, April 7, 2018 in Countryside, Illinois.
