Northwestern Wins Series, Splits Doubleheader with Central Michigan

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. — Northwestern took the series from Central Michigan after splitting a doubleheader on Saturday, taking game one, 5-2, before losing in the series finale, 7-3.
Northwestern improved to 7-8 overall on the campaign after taking two out of three from CMU.
GAME ONE – NU 5, CMU 2
Northwestern dominated Central Michigan in game one of the afternoon thanks in large part to the pitching performance of Hank Christie and Richard Fordon.
Christie tossed 6.0-scoreless innings, allowing four hits, while only walking a pair and fanning one. The sophomore earned his second victory in the effort. Fordon was credited with the save after working 3.0 inning, surrendering four hits and two runs, while striking out one and not allowing a walk.
Jack Dunn led the 'Cats at the plate by reaching base four times. The junior went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks, two singles and a RBI. Alex Erro, Willie Bourbon, Jack Claeys and Casey O'Laughlin each recorded an RBI.
Northwestern held CMU scoreless for eight innings until CMU posted a pair of runs in the ninth.
GAME TWO – CMU 7, CMU 3
Game two of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel until Central Michigan exploded for five runs in the eighth inning.
Jack Pagliarini earned the start and went 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and two runs, one earned.
Both teams were squared at 1-1 until the Chips posted five in the eighth.
Kyle Burnett, Jr. was the only Wildcat player to post multiple hits, going 2-for-4, including a double. Jack Dunn and Charlie Maxwell were the only 'Cats to drive in runs during the effort.
Northwestern will return to action next weekend to open Big Ten play when Illinois visits Miller Park on March 23-25.
