Bourbon Continues Hot Start, Kansas Wins Rubber Match

LAWRENCE, Kan. — Northwestern dropped the rubber match to Kansas, 10-3, Sunday afternoon.
The Wildcats move to 2-4 overall on the season, while the Jayhawks improve to 4-2 on the 2018 campaign.
Junior Willie Bourbon continued his hot start to the season by hitting his third home run of the season. Bourbon finished the series 6-for-14 at the dish with seven RBI on two singles, a double, triple and two home run.
Sophomore Leo Kaplan went 2-for-3 in the effort with two RBI.
Ryan Zeferjahn earned the victory for the Jayhawks after throwing 6.0 innings, only allowing four hits and three earned runs. Northwestern's Danny Katz earned the loss, tossing 4.1 innings and six earned runs.
Jack Pagliarini worked 1.2 innings of relief and struck out three batters.
Northwestern jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the second, but Kansas followed with three runs in the bottom half of the frame to take a 3-1 lead. The Jaayhawks never looked back, adding three more in the bottom of the fifth to build a 6-1 lead.
Kaplan's two-RBI single in the top of the seventh cut into KU's lead to make it 6-3, but it was as close as the Wildcats would come on Sunday afternoon. The Jayhawks added four runs over the next two innings to go on to win 10-3.
Northwestern will head to Texas next weekend to battle the Longhorns in a four-game set.
