Christie, Dunn, Erro Named Big Ten Players to Watch

EVANSTON, Ill. – Three Northwestern baseball players have been named to the 2018 Big Ten Preseason Honors list. Junior shortstop Jack Dunn, sophomore second baseman Alex Erro, and sophomore pitcher Hank Christie were announced as players to watch by the Big Ten Conference.


Dunn started and played every game last season at shortstop for the 'Cats, and has started over 100 consecutive games since his first year at Northwestern. Leading the team in steals both seasons of his NU career, Dunn finished the 2017 season with a .231 batting average and posted on-base percentage of .333. Dunn was awarded Academic All-Big Ten last season.
 
After outstanding performances at the plate last season, Erro remains a key player for Northwestern this year. As a first year, Erro led the team in at-bats, with 233 and was one of three Wildcats to have over 60 hits on the season. The Miami, Florida, native had the team's fourth-highest batting average with a clip of .275. Erro finished the campaign with a strikeout per 12.9 at-bats, which ranked 38th in the country for toughest to strikeout. Last season, Erro's strong performances at the plate landed him Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Feb. 27, and was he voted Male Newcomer of the Year at the 2017 NESPYs.
 
Pitcher Hank Christie will return to the mound this season. Named to the All-Big Ten Freshman Team last season, Christie led Northwestern in innings pitched (83.0) and had the second-most strikeouts out of the 'Cats roatation with 53 on the season. On March 3, Christie was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week after throwing a complete game at Santa Clara, giving up only six hits and one run.
