Northwestern Baseball Adds Seven Newcomers

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern University head baseball coach Spencer Allen and his staff have announced the addition of seven newcomers that will join the program in the fall of 2018.
"I am excited to officially welcome seven newcomers to the Northwestern Baseball family," Allen said. "As a program, we make it a priority to recruit individuals that excel in a multitude of areas including in the classroom, in the community and on the field. We are confident that these seven incoming student-athletes are high-character young men that believe in this program and will continue to elevate the profile of Northwestern Baseball for years to come."

Jack Anderson | C/IF/OF | Pittsburgh, Pa. | Mars Area
High School: A three-year All-Section selection while playing for the Mars Area Fightin' Planets … Hit for a .420 batting average and 4 home runs for the Fightin' Planets … Helped team make its first WPIAL Championship appearance in school history, finishing WPIAL 5A Runner-Ups in 2017 … Team won back-to-back section championships in 2016, 2017 … Received four varsity letters in baseball while also serving as a team captain … Participated in the 2017 East Coast Pro Showcase in Tampa Bay ... All-Conference Selection in 2017 … Hit for a .356 batting average, 29 RBI, 13 doubles and two home runs for New Trier … Hit for a .500 batting average and 17 RBI during Central Suburban League conference games in 2017… Tied the Illinois state record (IHSA) for most doubles in a game (4) vs. Evanston while playing at Rocky and Berenice Miller Park ... High School: Was selected to the 2017 5A Texas All-Star/All-State Team … A two time (2016, 2017) All-District recipient … Hit for a .365 batting average in 2017 for the Lubbock Cooper Pirates … His 36 RBI's during his junior year led the state of Texas for all third basemen … Competed in the 2017 TSA (Texas Scouts Association) All-Star Game … Posted a 4-1 record and a save in five starts and seven total pitching appearances as a junior … Received four varsity letters in baseball, serving as a captain during both his junior and senior seasons … Posted a 0.40 ERA and 35 strikeouts while pitching for the Arlington A's in the summer of 2017.

Chicago's Big Ten Team begins the season with a four-game series against the University of Nebraska-Omaha in Glendale, Arizona, beginning Feb. 16.
