Northwestern Takes Down Green Bay in Thrilling Season Opener, 57-55

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Northwestern closed the game on a 10-0 run to open the 2018-19 campaign with a 57-55 road win at Green Bay on Tuesday night.
The #B1GCats tied the game on five separate occasions and trailed by as many as 11 points in the third quarter. The 'Cats ultimately stormed back, outscoring the Phoenix in the fourth quarter, 57-55, to take down one of the top mid-major programs in the country.
Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah opened her senior campaign with her first double-double of the season with 17 points and 14 rebounds. She continued right where she left off last season, when she posted 18 double doubles, tied with Patricia Babcokand Nia Coffey for the most in a single season in Northwestern history.
First-year Veronica Burton played a total of 28 minutes and contributed eight points on the board.
Sophomore Jordan Hamilton cut the deficit to three after hitting a three pointer late in the fourth. After a foul from Green Bay with 22 seconds remaining, captain Lindsey Pulliam went to the free throw line and sunk both free throws to take the lead. The two sophomores each added nine points on the night.
The Wildcat defense forced 21 turnovers and kept Green Bay scoreless for a two and a half minutes in the fourth quarter.
Northwestern returns home to face Duke, Sunday, Nov 11 at the New Welsh-Ryan arena in their first regular season game. Tip off for that game is set for 1 p.m. on Big Ten Network.
