The junior looks to break her own school record in the 5000M run
BOSTON, Mass. – Junior Aubrey Roberts will represent the Northwestern cross country team at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University on Saturday, Dec. 1. Roberts is looking to carry momentum from her 18th place finish at the NCAA Championships in Madison, Wisconsin on Nov. 17 – a performance that made her the first All-American in program history.
The meet at the BU Track and Tennis Center was renamed this year to celebrate one of the most dominant student-athletes to ever compete for BU, Sharon Colyear-Danville. A permanent banner commemorating the event will be unveiled before the meet.
Roberts will be running against elite competition. New Mexico is brining four athletes from its team that finished in second place at the NCAA Championships, including three All-Americans. Also scheduled to run are former Stanford All-American Elise Cranny, Providence All-American Brianna Ilarda, Florida State All-American Militsa Mircheva, Boise State All-American, and reigning NCCA Champion in the 3000M, Allie Ostrander and Florida All-American Jessica Pasco.
At the BU Season Opener last year, Roberts started the indoor season off on a strong note with a school record in the 5000M run. The Eau Claire, Wisconsin native finished the race in 16:10.04, good for third in her heat among the nation's top runners. That performance cut over 21 seconds off the Wildcats 5000M indoor record, a time of 16:31.66 by Andrea Ostenso at the 2015 Meyo Invite.
Last year at Hornet Stadium in the NCAA West Preliminary hosted by Sacramento State, Roberts shaved 17 more seconds off of her own 5000M school record time, crossing the line in 15:53.85. She looks for another strong performance in the 5K race on Saturday.
The meet will be streamed live on FloTrack.org. Live results will also be available on Direct Athletics.
