TYR Invitational Results - Day Two 

EVANSTON, IL. - The Wildcats wrapped up the second day of competition at the TYR Invite at the Norris Aquatic Center on Saturday night.

Coming off of a big first day, the 'Cats started fast with 36 new season bests in the prelims alone.  

To start off the evening session, the women's relay team of Calypso Sheridan, Sophie Angus, Miriam Guevara, and Malorie Han set a new Norris Pool 200 Medley relay record with a time of 1:37.69. This is also the fastest time ever swam by a Wildcat team. The men joined in and brought home 40 points for the 'Cats in a time of 1:28.79 with the relay team of Ryan Gridley, Will Hofstadter, Arjun Sharma, and Andrew Zhang.

Sheridan secured her second NCAA 'B' cut of the weekend in the 400 IM finals in a time of 4:08.76, which ties her for the fasted NU time of all time and is a new pool record. Rounding out the 'Cats 1-2-3 sweep of the event, junior Sandra Freeman finished in second place with a new seasons best time of 4:20.57, followed by sophomore Ilektra Lebl in 4:20.57 which is also a new seasons best.

In the 100 Fly Finals, Guevara led the top five Wildcat sweep in a season best 53.80 followed closely by teammates Krystal Lara (53.89), Jasmine Hellmer (54.81), Melissa Melnick (54.99) and Alex Grimes (55.00). For the men, Ryan Tate and and Sharma brought home 30 points both finishing with new season bests.

Back in the pool for the 200 free, Han led the charge finishing in a season best 1:49.36, followed closely by Rachel Tseng who also had a season's best 1:49.43. The 'Cats had two more top ten finishers in the event with Grimes finishing fourth in 1:50.21 and Emma Theobald finishing in 1:50.60. Liam Gately dominated the 200 free and out touched his competitors by almost two second in a time of 1:36.95, which is also a season best for the sophomore.

The men and women both finished the 100 backstroke with 1-2-3 sweeps of the event. For the men R. Gridley (48.01), Zhang (48.55)  and Thorne (49.01) all earned season best times while securing 53 points for the 'Cats. The women finished in a similar dominant fashion led by Nicole Aarts, Lara and Guevara.

Hofstadter brought home twenty points for the Wildcats in the 100 breast, dropping almost two seconds while in route to a new season best time. Let by Vovk, the women swept with a 1-2-3-8 finish in the 100 breast. Followed by Sheridan, Angus and Becky Kamau, the 'Cats secured 64 points in the event.

On the boards, senior Olivia Rosendahl won her second of two events on the weekend, claiming victory in the 3 meter with a score of 302.05. First-year Yohan Eskrick-Parkinson, first year Evan Labuda and senior Ben Magliato finished 2-3-4 for the 'Cats, and Labuda and Magliato each put in season best dives, scoring 321.05 and 319.05, respectively.

The men and women closed out the night the same way they started it, both claiming the top spot in the 800 free relay. The women's team of Tseng, Hellmer, Han and Lebl shaved over eleven seconds off their season best, finishing first with a time of 7:17.69. On the men's side, Gately, R. Gridley, sophomore Peter Lewczyk and sophomore Robert Cecil also put in a season best performance, taking the top spot with a time of 6:34.59.

The #B1GCats return to the pool tomorrow morning at 9 a.m. for day day three of the invite.
