Three Wrestlers to Join Northwestern in 2019

EVANSTON, Ill. – Head coach Matt Storniolo announced the signings of three new recruits to the Northwestern wrestling program today, as Chris Cannon, Trevor Chumbley and Troy Fisher will join the Wildcats for the 2019-20 season.
The class is highlighted by Fisher's ranking as a top-50 talent in his class according to FloWrestling. The trio will bring an assortment of conference, state and national titles to Evanston as they join a squad currently ranked in the top-25 in the nation and coming off its best conference campaign since 2010-11.

Chris Cannon

High School: Wrestled varsity all four years … Competed one year at 113, two years at 126, and one year at 132… Three-time Prep National finalis t… Two-time Prep National champion … High school team top-ranked team in the nation … Wrestled for Triumph Wrestling club for eight years.
Personal: Born Christopher Robert Cannon … Son of Robert Cannon and Chris Lavelle … Sister won dance nationals at Towson University … Anticipated major at Northwestern is learning and organizational change.

High School: Wrestled varsity all four years … Competed at 113, 126, and 138-lb weight classes … Two-year captain of varsity team … State qualifier and second in conference as a freshman … Fourth-place at state and third in conference as a sophomore … Finished sixth at freestyle nationals … State champion and conference champion at 138 lbs. junior year … Won 48 matches in his junior campaign … Named Team MVP … Named Country Financial Chicago Tribune Athlete of the Month … Team finished second at state competition … Also wrestled for SCN Youth Wrestling Club … Won state titles both individually and as a team in club competition.

High School: Letter-winner on wrestling team in each of first three years in high school … Compiled a 43-6 record as a freshman … Won 33 of 36 matches competed in as a sophomore … Undefeated 45-0 in his junior campaign … Named 2018 KWCA Regional Wrestler of the Year … Also named 2018 Kansas Wrestler of the Year … Took first place at the 2017 Kansas City Stampede … Finished first in the NHSCA Nationals Junior Division … High school team won Division 5A state championship in 2015, 2016, 2017 and 2018 … Ranked as the #46 recruit nationwide in his class by FloWrestling.
