Three Storylines to Watch: Northwestern vs. Binghamton

11/16/2018 1:37:00 PM | Men's Basketball

The Wildcats will face Binghamton on Friday at 6 p.m. at the new Welsh-Ryan Arena as they try to move to 3-0 on the season. Here are three storylines to watch for the contest that will take place after a taping of PTI on the Welsh-Ryan Arena court...

NATIONAL RESPECT: After limiting New Orleans and American to 103 combined points, ESPN's College Basketball Power Index (BPI) ranks Northwestern as the No. 25 team in the country. ESPN defines BPI as "a measure of team strength that is meant to be the best predictor of performance going forward."

LOCKDOWN D: Northwestern has allowed just 51.5 points per game through the first two contests of the season, giving the team the 10th best scoring defense in the country. The 'Cats have given up the least amount of points through their first two games since 2013 and are holding opponents to just 39 percent from the field. Sophomore Anthony Gaines is fourth in the Big Ten with five blocks this season as well.

CRASHING THE BOARDS: Senior Dererk Pardon has thoroughly dominated the boards on both ends of the floor through two games. Pardon leads the country in offensive rebounds per game with 7.5 and his mark of 14.5 total rebounds per game is the second-best mark nationwide. Pardon is one of nine players in the country to post two double-doubles this season after dropping his second with 13 points and 14 rebounds against American.
