TYR Invitational Live Results
EVANSTON, ILL. – The Northwestern men's and women's swimming and diving teams return to the pool this weekend for the prestigious TYR Invitational. Northwestern will host the invitational at the Norris Aquatics Center, starting Friday, Nov. 16 and running through the weekend. Prelims will start on Friday and Saturday (Nov. 17) and Sunday (Nov. 18) at 9 a.m., while the finals sessions are set for 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, and 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The Wildcats will be joined by six teams: Michigan State, UIC, Truman State, Saint Louis, William & Mary, and Illinois State (women only).
At least year's Invitational, the Wildcats came out on top with a commanding victory for the women's program. The women's 1190 point win was highlighted by multiple career-best performances, NCAA 'B' cut qualifiers, and new pool record from current sophomore Calypso Sheridan in the 200 breast, a time that hadn't been broken for 11 years. The men's team also finished the competition in first place, with 890 points.
Northwestern women's swimming and diving has led the TYR Invitational every year that they have participated, while the men's squad has taken the top spot for the last two years.
Last weekend, Northwestern participated in both the Big Al Invite at Princeton and the inaugural ACC/B1G Challenge, hosted by Purdue. To start off the weekend, Northwestern's women team took second and the men's team took third in Princeton. Closing it out, the Wildcats contributed to a league win by the Big Ten Conference over the ACC in both men's and women's competition at the ACC/B1G Challenge.
The weekend saw a record-setting performance by Sheridan with a school record in the 200 breast, touching the wall with a time of 2:08.03. The 'Cats tallied up season-bests and individual wins, including victories from Northwestern's newest class of stars: first-years Andrew Zhang (100 back) and Miriam Guevara (100 fly) grabbed first place finishes.
On the diving boards, first-year Yohan Eskrick-Parkinson brought home two second place finishes in the platform and 1-meter and a victory in the 3-meter from Princeton. Senior diving phenom Olivia Rosendahl ruled in Purdue, with a platform win at the ACC/B1G Challenge.
After the TYR Invitational, the Wildcats will be heading to Iowa City on January 19th for the Iowa/Wisconsin Tri-Dual.
