STANFORD, Calif. — Northwestern is one of just two teams under par after a stellar round on day two at the Stanford Intercollegiate.
The Wildcats shot 5-under as a team on Saturday, moving to second in the 17-team field at 1-under through 36 holes. NU finished strong for the second-straight day, shooting 8-under on the second nine. The 'Cats started the day on the back nine.
Senior Brooke Riley continued to pace the 'Cats, carding a 2-under 69. Riley played a bogey-free front nine with a pair of birdies to close her day. The California native is tied for fifth at 3-under after two rounds.
Seniors Stephanie Lau and Janet Mao each posted numbers in the red to move to even in the tournament and tied for 13th.
Lau matched Riley's 2-under 69 thanks to three birdies on the second nine, while Mao also had three birdies on the front to finish the day with a 1-under 70. Lau's 69 marked her team-best third round in the 60's this fall.
Senior Monica Matsubara posted an even-par 70 in round two and is tied for 32nd at 3-over.
