EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern plays its second of three straight road games Monday as it travels to Ann Arbor to take on Michigan. Tip time is set for 6 p.m. Central.

The Wildcats are in the midst of playing five away from home over a six-game span. In an odd scheduling quirk, the NU and Michigan will meet again in eight days in Rosemont.

It would be tough to find a Big Ten matchup that has been more competitive lately than Northwestern vs. Michigan. Four of the last five matchups have been decided by four points or less, including three by two points. Four of the last 10 meetings between the schools have gone to overtime.

Monday's meeting is the first between Northwestern and Michigan since the dramatic 67-65 win by the Wildcats March 1, 2017 in Evanston. Dererk Pardon's layup at the buzzer off a length-of-the-court inbounds pass from Nathan Taphorn gave the Wildcats their school-record 21st victory and virtually clinched the team's first NCAA tournament berth in program history.

Northwestern is coming off a 77-69 victory at Minnesota last Tuesday, giving NU a season sweep of the Golden Gophers. Vic Law led the 'Cats with 18 points, a career-high 13 rebounds while matching another career best with 5 assists. Bryant McIntosh also tallied 18 points for the Wildcats.

Northwestern redshirt junior Vic Law and Michigan redshirt sophomore Charles Matthews were teammates at St. Rita High School in Chicago.

Northwestern assistant coach Billy Donlon was an assistant on Michigan's staff last season. Donlon and NU head coach Chris Collins both were coached in high school by fellow NU assistant Brian James.

Scouting Michigan
The Wolverines (17-6, 6-4 B1G) are coming off a 92-88 loss at Purdue last Thursday. Muhammad-Ali Abdur-Rahkman led Michigan with 26 points. Charles Matthews paces the team with an average of 14.4 points per game while Moritz Wagner averages 14.3 points and a team-best 7.0 rebounds per contest. Michigan ranks sixth nationally with average of only 9.9 turnovers per game and 11th with a 1.54 assist-to-turnover ratio.
