EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern University head baseball coach Spencer Allen has announced that volunteer coach Tad Skelley has been named an amateur scout and video coordinator with the Toronto Blue Jays of Major League Baseball.

"I want to thank Tad and Josie for their commitment and overall impact they had on our program," said Allen. "We are truly happy for Tad and the opportunity he has been presented, but will miss him around our program. The Blue Jays are getting a hardworking, dedicated and quality man in Tad. The Skelley family will always have a home here with Northwestern Baseball."

Skelley joined the Wildcats' staff in August of 2015, working primarily with infielders and assisting in the development of Northwestern's hitters. The Wolfeboro, New Hampshire, native played an integral role in the Wildcats' magical 2017 Big Ten Tournament run - the program's first postseason appearance since 2010 and first title game appearance since 1984.

Under Skelley's tutelage, Northwestern's fielding percentage improved from .967 in 2016 to .974 in 2017, a mark in the top 20 percent of the country.

"My family and I are so grateful for the opportunity that Dr. Phillips, Coach Allen and the Northwestern University community provided us," said Skelley. "We are excited for the next chapter of our lives with the Toronto Blue Jays, but we will forever be Wildcats. I'm looking forward to being a fan this spring and seeing the program continue to develop under Coach Allen and the staff. Go 'Cats!"

Before coming to Northwestern, Skelley served as the Director of Operations at Notre Dame from 2013-15. He helped to plan all aspects of the Fighting Irish practices, served as the video analysis coordinator, assisted with camp organization and planned all travel and financial arrangements.

Northwestern baseball begins the 2018 season on Feb. 16-18 with a four-game set against Nebraska-Omaha in Glendale, Arizona, at Camelback Ranch Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Chicago White Sox and Los Angeles Dodgers. The Wildcats will then open up their home schedule on March 10-11 with games against Mac Murray College and Judson, respectively, before welcoming Illinois to Rocky and Berenice Miller Park on March 23-25.
