2018 Illinois Open – LIVE RESULTS
Head coach 'AHavahla Haynes' lineup for the first track event of the campaign features eight women in three events. Senior Sara Coffey will compete in the 1-Mile, while sophomore MacKenzie Wilson will toe the line in the 800M. Seniors Haley Albers, Andrea Ostenso, and Isabel Seidel, sophomore Aubrey Roberts, and rookies Amanda Davis and Hannah Tobin will compete in the 3000M.
Ostenso owns the school indoor record in the 3000M, a 9:29.19 at the 2015 Alex Wilson Invite, as well as the top Northwestern indoor mark in the 5000M and the No. 2 time in the 800M. Seidel won the 3000M race at this event last January, outpacing more than 30 competitors from across the Midwest with a time of 10:06.11.
The event will host 11 programs on Saturday afternoon, including seven from within the state of Illinois. In addition to the hosts, Southern Illinois, DePaul, Bradley, SIU-Edwardsville, Northern Illinois (women) and Eastern Illinois represent the Land of Lincoln, while Butler, Saint Louis and Southeastern Missouri State round out the teams from outside state borders. The women's 1-Mile is tentatively slated to begin at 3:25 p.m. CT, with the 800M at 4:10 p.m. and the 3000M at 4:30 p.m.
Northwestern has not competed since the NCAA Championships, and will use the event to shake off rust. The 'Cats put together a strong week of practice coming off the University's winter recess, and will aim to place as high as possible before competitions in South Bend and Seattle next month.
