Kim, Mao Open Season With Top-5 Finishes At McGuire Invite

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Senior Hannah Kim and junior Janet Mao both went under par in Tuesday's final round to secure Top-5 finishes at the season-opening Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational, hosted by New Mexico at the UNM Championship Course (Par 72; 6,317 yards).

Kim and Mao were two of the biggest movers on the leaderboard in Round 3, and two of only five players in the field to card 70-or-better on the day. The senior carded four birdies on her way to a final round 69, vaulting from 15th at the start of the day to 4th when the loop was finished. Mao birdied three of her last nine holes to card a final round 70 and climb from 15th to 5th. The Johns Creek, Georgia, native was ferocious over the final two rounds, finishing 69-70 after finding herself in 47th place after the first 18 holes of competition.
As a team, Northwestern was the only squad to shoot under par in Tuesday's final round, but came up just two shots shy of a season-opening victory, finishing second to Oklahoma State in a field that also included perennial NCAA contenders Stanford, Texas, Arizona, California and Pepperdine.

The Wildcats head to Nashville this weekend to compete against an outstanding field in the 17th Annual Mason Rudolph Women's Championship at Vanderbilt Legends Club (Friday-Sunday, Sept. 15-17).
Ten of the 15 squads scheduled to contend for the Mason Rudolph team title participated in NCAA postseason play last year, including seven that competed in the NCAA Championships. In addition to Northwestern, 2017 champion Arizona State, Alabama, South Carolina, North Carolina, Clemson and Arkansas will be in Nashville.
