GLEN ELLYN, Ill. — Men's golf senior Dylan Wu advanced to the prestigious 2017 U.S. Amateur after winning sectional qualifying at Village Links.

RESULTS

The second-team All-American rebounded from shooting a 1-over 73 in the first round of the qualifying by shooting a 6-under 66 — the best score of any entrant in the event. The Medford, Oregon, native carded six birdies in the second round and no bogeys.

The 2017 U.S. Amateur will be held in California. The main venue is at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, while the Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles is the stroke play co-host. The championship will be held from August 14-20 and will feature 312 elite entrants. The U.S. Amateur includes two rounds of stroke play and five days of match play competition.

Riviera Country Club served as the host of the 2012 Division I Men's Golf Championships, in addition to the 1983 and 1995 PGA Championships.

Wu finished the 2016-17 season as the Les Bolstad Award winner (given to the Big Ten player with the lowest scoring average), a unanimous first-team All-Big Ten member, and a Jack Nicklaus Player of the Year semifinalist. He finished the year with a 70.53 scoring average, the third-lowest in Wildcat history trailing only a pair of Luke Donald seasons.
