LOS ANGELES, Calif. – The Wildcats wrapped up the outdoor track regular season on Saturday at the 2017 Occidental Invitational, hosted on Bill Henry Track at Jack Kemp Stadium. Northwestern now awaits final NCAA Qualifying cutoffs in hope of earning invitations to the West Preliminaries in Austin, Texas.

Rookie Kelly O'Brien posted the seventh-best time in the 1500M, crossing the line in 4:27.90, just shy of her personal record. Junior Sara Coffey turned in a 4:37.86 performance in the same event.
Junior Isabel Seidel ran the 3000M Steeplechase in 10:40.87, a distance in which she owns the school record.
First-year student-athlete Aubrey Roberts was the fastest 'Cat in the 5000M field, finishing with a personal best of 16:51.82, followed by classmate Sarah Nicholson (16:51.82), senior Jena Pianin (17:15.10), juniors Brooke Pigneri (17:39.45) and Haley Albers (18:32.51) and senior Elena Miller (19:08.91).
"The women raced to the best of their ability on the day," said head coach 'AHavahla Haynes. "The most important takeaway from the weekend is that the women have run increasingly consistent times over their specified distances. This sets the program up for a great summer and exciting things heading into the 2017 cross country season in the fall."
Haynes' squad currently boasts three student-athletes in the Top-90 in the nation and within striking distance of NCAA qualifying times. O'Brien is less than four seconds outside the Top-48 with her current season best of 4:26.56 in the 1500. Classmate Nicholson owns the No. 68 5000M time of the season, a 16:29.37, 12-seconds outside the Top-28. Seidel's school-record 10:33.30 in the 3000M Steeplechase is the No. 52 time in the nation this year, exactly one second off the 48th spot (10:32.30).
The Wildcats will not learn their NCAA fate until later this month when the entire regular-season is completed.
