Chatt and Lipp Fall in NCAA Doubles Round of 16

ATHENS, Ga. -- Northwestern's doubles team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp saw their season come to an end Friday, falling in the round of 16 of the NCAA Doubles Championship on the campus of the University of Georgia.

The Wildcats fell to the duo of Kennedy Shaffer and Elena Christofi who were playing on their home courts, 6-4, 6-3.

The 38^th-ranked Georgia pairing was coming off an opening-round upset win over the fourth-seeded team from North Carolina, while Chatt and Lipp – ranked No. 15 -- had defeated a team from Texas Tech in straight sets in Thursday's first round.

An early break by the home-standing Bulldogs gave them a 2-0 lead in the first set, but NU broke right back to get back on serve. The set remained on serve with Northwestern trailing 5-4 when Shaffer and Christofi broke to take the opening frame.

Leading 2-1 in the second set, the Bulldogs' team broke the 'Cats and Northwestern was unable to get the break back as Shaffer and Christofi advanced to the quarterfinal round.
