Wu Leads After Day One of Redhawk Invitational

UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. — After 36 holes at Chambers Bay, Dylan Wu holds a two-stroke lead and the second-place Wildcats trail Iowa State by one stroke at the Redhawk Invitational.

Wu is the pacemaker at six strokes under par, thanks in part to a five-under 66 in the first round, including four birdies in the back nine. That 66-stroke performance is the lowest for any Northwestern golfer this season and is his career-low.

Conor Richardson put together a strong pair of rounds, carding 71 and 72, respectively. After day one, he is tied for eighth place.

Ryan Lumsden went up-and-down on the par-five eighteen for eagle in the second round and finished under par (70). That was Lumsden's team-leading sixth eagle of the season.

In his return to his home state of Washington, Andrew Whalen shot a 72 in the second round and is tied for 30th.

As a team, Northwestern shot five-over (289) in the first round and cumulated an even 284 in round two.

The #B1GCats will return for the final 18 holes Tuesday at 10 a.m. CT. After playing Chambers Bay as a par-71 today, the course will be a par-70.

Elsewhere, Pete Griffith, Sam Triplett, and Luke Miller participated as individuals in the Wright State Invitational in Dayton, Ohio. After two rounds, Griffith is in third place after a first-round 67. Triplett is tied for eighth, helped by his one-under 70 in the second round.
