EVANSTON, Ill. -- After batting .400 with six hits, seven RBI, three runs scored and a home run in four games senior Joe Hoscheit is the Big Ten Conference Player of the Week for the second week in a row, the conference announced Monday.
Hoscheit went 6-for-15 with a .666 slugging percentage, a .444 on base percentage and a 1.111 OPS in a midweek game against Milwaukee and a series at Penn State. The senior accounted for ten runs between his RBI and runs scored, and led the Wildcats to three wins out of four games.
The St. Charles, Illinois, native leads the team in average (.323), RBI (34), slugging percentage (.520), and home runs (5). In conference games, Hoscheit leads the league in slugging percentage (.894), runs scored (16), and is second in batting average (.489) and hits (23).
Last week's Big Ten Player of the Week award for Hoscheit was the first for a Northwestern player since Jake Straub in 2013. Hoscheit is the first Northewstern player to win two Player of the Week awards in a season since Jake Goebbert in 2007.
Hoscheit is the third Wildcat to win back-to-back Player of the Week honors and the first since Dan Brauer did so as a pitcher in 2006. In 1993, Sloan Smith, Sr. did so as a pitcher one week and a hitter in the next. Hoscheit becomes the first in program history to win the award consecutive weeks as a fielder.
