Kim Surges Within Stroke Of Lead With 10 Birdies Monday

NAPA, Calif. – Hannah Kim carded a remarkable ten birdies, including six on the back-nine, in the second round of the Silverado Showdown on her way to a 6-under 66, the second-best round in program history. The junior finished round two tied for second-place, and will tee off Tuesday's final round just one shot off the lead in northern California at the Silverado Resort & Spa (Par-72 • 6,253 yards).

The Chula Vista, California, native birdied her first two holes of the day and seven of her final ten, including four of the last five, during the round. She birdied all four of Silverado's Par-5 offerings. For the second straight day, she opened both ends strong with birdies on No. 1 and No. 10.
Kim's 66 is tied for the second-best 18-hole score in Wildcats program history, and is the third 66 of her career. The two-time Big Ten Player of the Year registered Northwestern's best round last season, a 64 at the 2016 Hurricane Invitational. Teammates Kacie Komoto and Stephanie Lau each have one round of 66 on their resumes in the record books.
Classmate Sarah Cho was terrific down the stretch for the second consecutive day. The junior persevered through a triple bogey on No. 3, and bogeys on No. 4 and No. 8, to birdie four of her last ten holes of the day and wrap up the second round at even par. She enters Tuesday's final 18 holes in a tie for 12th, 1-under for the tournament.
The No. 13 Wildcats rose one spot on the leaderboard to fourth on Monday, and will tee off Tuesday's final round beginning at 8:54 a.m. PT, paired with Iowa State and Oregon.
