NCAA Releases 2017 Championships Brackets

EVANSTON, Ill. – The NCAA announced yesterday that four Northwestern wrestlers will travel to St. Louis, Missouri, next week for the 2017 NCAA Championships, and today, the Wildcats found out their matchups during the bracket selection show on NCAA.com.
Johnny Sebastian (165) earned an automatic qualifying spot with his seventh place finish at the Big Ten Championships last weekend, and Mitch Sliga (184), Jacob Berkowitz (197) and Conan Jennings (285) earned at-large bids after successful seasons.
Sebastian (22-8) is unseeded and will take on No. 5 seed Chad Walsh (29-2) of Rider in the first round. The winner will take on either No. 12 seed Austin Matthews (18-7) from Edinboro or Cole Walter (19-9) of Lehigh.
There are 33 wrestlers competing in each weight class.
Mitch Sliga (17-11) drew the No. 2 seed at 184 lbs. in Penn State's Bo Nickal (21-1). Jacob Berkowitz (22-9) will take on Frank Mattiace (26-9), the No. 12 seed, from Penn at 197 lbs., while at heavyweight, Conan Jennings (17-14) matches up against No. 11 seed Jared Johnson (26-7) from Chattanooga.

The 2017 NCAA Championships get underway from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis on Thursday, March 16 at 11 a.m. and run through the finals, which will take place at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 18.
