SEATTLE -- No. 38 Northwestern jumped out to an early lead by claiming the doubles point, but the Wildcats ultimately suffered a 5-2 loss to 11th-ranked Oklahoma State Saturday afternoon at the University of Washington.
The 'Cats got out to the advantage thanks to wins at Nos. 1 and 2. In a matchup of top-10 nationally ranked teams in the match at No. 1, the Wildcats' ninth-ranked duo of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp rolled to a 6-2 win over the sixth-ranked team of Carla Tur Mari and Vladica Babic. Northwestern also got a 6-3 victory from Erin Larner and Brooke Rischbieth over the 31st-ranked team of Aliona Bolsova and Sofia Blanco at No. 2 to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
However, the Cowgirls' singles lineup that featured five nationally ranked players on Saturday proved to be too much for NU to overcome. The Wildcats' singles win came courtesy of Lee Or who notched a three-set win over 50th-ranked Babic at No. 4, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
Northwestern returns to action at 3 p.m. Central time Sunday when it takes on 25th-ranked Washington.
