KAMPALA, Uganda -- Wildcats freshman Aubrey Roberts will trade in her Northwestern purple this weekend for the red, white and blue, of the United States on Sunday, representing her country in the 2017 IAFF Cross Country World Championships at the Kololo Independence Grounds.
Roberts added to an already sterling rookie resume by finishing second at the United States Cross Country Championships with a time of 22:42 to advance to the World Championships as part of Team USA. The Eau Claire, Wisconsin, native recorded the Wildcats best 5K and 6K times during the 2016 cross country season. She earned her first collegiate win at the Illini Challenge, earned a Top-12 result at the Big Ten Championships, and finished fourth at the NCAA Midwest Regional to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
She headlines the American team in Uganda along with Oklahoma State freshman Michelle Magnani, who edged her by seconds for the U.S. title in Bend, Oregon. Fourth-place finisher Logan Morris from Clemson; fifth-place finisher Megan Murray from Tennessee; sixth-place finisher Kristen Garcia, the lone high school athlete; and, seventh-placer Madison Fruchey from Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne, round out the Team USA squad.
