Northwestern Takes Series From Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. — Northwestern posted a 9-5 victory over Portland in Saturday's series finale to give Northwestern its first series win of the 2017 campaign.
Northwestern (4-10) posted 11 hits in the contest. Connor Lind led the way with three hits including and a double and two RBIs, while Ben Dickey and Alex Erro tallied two knocks apiece. Dickey finished the contest with a game-high 3 RBI.
Sophomore Danny Katz earned his first win of the season after working the final three frames of the game, holding the Pilots to a pair of runs and tallying three strikeouts. Josh Levy earned started for the Wildcats and went 4.0 innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out five batters.
Northwestern struck first by scoring a run in the second inning when Dickey drilled a triple to right field to score Lind. The Pilots countered in the bottom of the frame with a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead.
The Wildcats busted the game open in the top of the third inning by scoring three runs thanks to RBIs from Hopfner, Erro and Joe Hoscheit. After Portland got a run back in the bottom of the fourth, Northwestern scored four runs in the fifth inning to take an 8-3 lead.
Northwestern will host its first home series of the season next weekend when Central Michigan comes to town for a four-game series, beginning on Friday, March 17.
