Nia Coffey Selected to Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 List

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern senior Nia Coffey was selected to the John R. Wooden Late Season Top 20 list, the Los Angeles Athletic Club announced Wednesday. The Wooden Award is presented annually to the most outstanding player of the year in college basketball.
 
The 20 student-athletes remaining in consideration for the award were announced during a live broadcast on ESPNU.
 
The Wooden Award is chosen each year by a hand-selected panel of voters. These voters are college basketball experts from around the country selected to represent each of the 50 states. Candidates for the award must exhibit strength of character, excel on both ends of the floor and have strong academic credentials.
 
Coffey is one of four players from the Big Ten that made the cut to 20. She averages 19.0 points and 11.1 rebounds per game. Her rebounding average ranks 11th in the country. She also dishes averages 3.3 assists, 1.6 blocks and 1.2 steals per contest. Her 12 double-doubles this season rank second in the Big Ten and 17th nationally.
 
The final ballot for the Wooden Award will be announced on March 4 during a special Saturday announcement.
