Roberts Makes Team USA Roster

EVANSTON, Ill. -- After a split-squad weekend, the Wildcats are headed home with some major achievements under their belts. Freshmen Aubrey Roberts and Kelly O'Brien both claimed Top 10 finishes at the USA Track and Field Cross Country Championships while four other 'Cats fought hard in South Bend at the famous Meyo Invitational.
After an impressive rookie cross country season, Aubrey Roberts has kicked off her 2017 campaign in style finishing second in the Junior Women's Final in Bend, Ore. with a time of 22:37 for the 6K course, qualifying her for the Team USA Roster. Fellow Freshman teammate Kelly O'Brien joined her in celebration, finishing 10th in an elite field of 35 with a time of 24:34. Pending a decision to be announced Tuesday, the duo is looking to compete at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Kampala, Uganda on March 26th.
Over 2,000 miles away, Northwestern was fighting to come out on top of their heats on the indoor track. Freshman Sarah Nicholson and Junior Isabel Seidel teamed up to finish 18th and 19th overall after coming in at the top of their heat in the 3000 Meter final with times of 9:46.78 and 9:46.93, respectively. Joining the duo in competition were Juniors Brooke Pigneri and Sara Coffey. Pigneri finished the Women's 5000 meter at the 48th spot in 17:43.14, and Coffey ran the Meyo Mile at a pace of 5:00.09 to claim a 47th place finish.
Next week the 'Cats are headed to Seattle, Wash. for the Husky Classic to take place over the weekend of February 10th hosted by the University of Washington. The meet can be watched here with coverage beginning at 10:00am CST on Feb 10th and continuing through Feb 11th (subscription required).
