EVANSTON, Ill. — Alex Erro was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week in baseball for his performances against Middle Tennessee, Belmont and Lipscomb at the Mule Mix Classic (Feb. 24-26).
Erro led the Wildcats with a .700 batting average, .769 on base percentage and 1.100 slugging percentage over the weekend. He collected three multi-hit games and had a team-high seven hits.
The Miami, Florida, native got off to a hot start by going 3-for-4 against Middle Tennessee, launching the first home run of his career in the fourth inning to bring home a pair of runs. He added his first-career double and a single to finish a triple shy of hitting for the cycle.
The Wildcats' second baseman continued his hot hitting against Belmont, finishing 2-for-2 with a pair of singles, to go along with a couple of walks. He capped off his weekend performance with a 2-for-4 performance against Lipscomb. He had two singles and a walk, and was the only Wildcat to finish with multiple hits.
He is the first player to earn freshman of the week honors since Joe Hoscheit on May 19, 2014.
