EVANSTON, Ill. -- After a successful weekend at the Husky Classic in Seattle, Wash., the Wildcats are back for another split-squad weekend to cap off their indoor track season as part of the team heads to South Bend and the other heads to Champaign.
In South Bend, Ind., six runners will participate in the Alex Wilson Invitational hosted by the University of Notre Dame. A duo of Seniors -- Haley Albers and Elena Miller -- will run the 5K, Freshmen Sarah Nicholson and Kelly O'Brien will join Junior Sara Coffey in the mile, and Junior Isabel Seidel will run the 3K.
The 'Cats are aiming high with specific goals for the meet. After notching a personal best in the 3K, Nicholson will be moving down in distance to the mile for training purposes while her teammate Junior Isabel Seidel will be gunning for a Personal Best time in the 3K.
Albers will be running the first indoor 5K of her career, and the coaches believe that her teammate Sara Coffey has the potential to break 5:00 for the mile. Elena Miller has been under the weather this week, and her participation in the meet will depend on the status of her illness.
The races are slated to start as follows on Saturday (CST): 11:35 PM (5K), 12:35 PM (Mile) and 1:50 PM (3K). The meet will be streamed via FloTrack (subscription required) and live results will be available here.
At the UI Armory in Champaign, Ill., four Northwestern runners will compete in the Orange and Blue open. Senior Andrea Ostenso, Junior Brooke Pigneri, and Sophomores Mary Orders and Ashley Ko will be brushing up on racing tactics in the 3K, hoping to hone in on their skills to potentially pull off a personal best.
Although timing is not necessarily the team's goal this time around, they're hoping to continue to improve in individual performances. "Brooke Pigneri is in good shape and is due a personal best if the race lends itself to faster times," says Head Coach A' Havahla Haynes. The meet can be followed with live results here, with the 3K race kicking off at 2:55pm on Saturday.
