Northwestern Blows By Wisconsin, 63-43

2/1/2017 9:34:00 PM | Women's Basketball

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern cruised past Wisconsin 63-43 in a wire-to-wire victory Wednesday night at Welsh-Ryan Arena.

The Wildcats moved to 17-5 on the season and improved to 6-3 in conference play after a stout defensive performance. They held Wisconsin to 32 percent shooting from the field and kept the Badgers scoreless for more than eight minutes over a stretch in the second and third quarters.

Senior Nia Coffey led the 'Cats with 15 points and 10 rebounds in just 21 minutes for her 11th double-double of the season. In her second game back from injury, senior Christen Inman returned to form and recorded 14 points and four assists.

Sophomore Amber Jamison continued her hot shooting after her insertion into the starting lineup and drained three shots from beyond the arc en route to 11 points. Jamison has scored in double figures in each of the last five games.

Both teams started the game slowly but Northwestern jumped out to an early 13-7 lead behind seven points and six rebounds from Coffey in the first quarter alone.

In the second, the Wildcats limited the Badgers to just seven points again and kept them off the scoreboard for the last 7:21 of the half. They took a 24-14 lead into the half.

After an even third quarter, the 'Cats opened the floodgates in the fourth, outscoring Wisconsin 24-14 down the stretch. Six different players got on the scoreboard as the lead stretched to 20.

Chicago's Big Ten Team is back in action on Sunday, Feb. 5, when it hosts Penn State at 2 p.m. for the annual Think Pink game.
