EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern Director of Athletic Training Services Tory Lindley has been promoted to Senior Associate Director of Athletics for Health, Safety and Performance, Vice President for Athletics & Recreation Jim Phillips announced Thursday.
"The health and well-being of Wildcats student-athletes is our paramount priority, and Tory has been at the forefront of those efforts for nearly two decades," said Phillips. "He has earned the respect and trust of his staff, department colleagues, coaches and students, with a resolute commitment to the best interests of our young men and women. We've invested significantly in recent years in what we believe is a model sports medicine program in college athletics. This promotion reflects just how important Tory is to our Department of Athletics & Recreation mission as well as our commitment to the care and wellness of all our nearly 500 student-athletes here at Northwestern."
Lindley has been Northwestern's Head Athletic Trainer since 2002, and in that capacity, supervises NU's staff athletic trainers and sports performance coaches, and serves as the head athletic trainer for the No. 21 ranked Northwestern football program.
"I am appreciative of this tremendous opportunity and honored to be elevated to this new role," said Lindley. "Northwestern has been a national leader in health and safety and this is a strong statement from our department that shows a continued commitment toward excellence. The importance of promoting a medical model of autonomous decision-making and having a health care voice among high-level athletics leadership cannot be overstated."
In October, Lindley was elected by his peers as the 14th president of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and will serve a three-year term beginning in 2018. He will officially assume responsibility at the 2018 NATA Clinical Symposia and AT Expo in New Orleans.
"Nationally, Tory is one of the leaders in sports medicine," said Director of Sports Medicine Dr. Jeff Mjaanes. "His experience, expertise and tireless commitment to the health and well-being of our student athletes has been integral to our success. He also has been, and will continue to be, a wonderful leader and mentor for our athletic training staff and our department."
The 2011 Illinois Athletic Trainers' Association Hall of Fame inductee has received numerous awards for his work and leadership, including the 2016 Great Lakes Athletic Trainers' Association Golden Pinnacle Award, the association's highest honor.
