Northwestern Leads the Field After Day Two of TYR Invite

EVANSTON, Ill. – The men's and women's swimming and diving programs continued to perform strongly on Saturday, finishing day two of the TYR Invitational atop the field.
The women's program, which leads second-place Michigan State by 256 points, set three pool records, while four swimmers recorded NCAA 'B' cut times.
To start the night, the 200 medley relay team of Calypso Sheridan, Sophie Angus, Nicole Aarts and Mary Warren finished first with a pool-record time of 1:39.80. It was the third fastest time in Northwestern history.
Sheridan carried that momentum into the 400 yard IM, where she broke the pool record with a winning time of 4:09.80, the second fastest finish in program history. Three other Wildcats rounded out the top four. First year Ilektra Lebl took second with a season-best time of 4:17.12. Sophomore Sandra Freeman swam a career-best 4:21.57 to take third, and senior Sydney Modeas finished fourth with a season-best time of 4:23.24.
In the 100 fly, all three 'Cats in the championship final finished in career-best fashion. Sophomore Krystal Lara took first with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 54.17. Junior Alex Grimes and Sophomore Nicole Aarts finished fifth and sixth, with times of 55.04 and 55.11, respectively.
Lara and Aarts finished first and second, respectively, in the 100 back, both earning NCAA 'B' cut times in the process. Lara recorded a time of 53.65, while Aarts finished in 54.31. Junior Alex Grimes finished in eighth with a time of 56.51.
Senior Anna Keane won the 200 free with a career-best and NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:47.64. Sophomore Malorie Han finished in 1:50.63, taking fifth.
All three 100 breast swimmers finished with season-best times. First year Sophie Angus was second to the wall with an NCAA 'B' cut time of 1:01.88. Junior Peyton Greenberg came in third with a time of 1:02.63, while first year Rebecca Kamau finished with an eighth-place time of 1:03.88.
In the one meter diving event, junior Eryn Scannel took first after recording a career-best 291.65. Junior Olivia Rosendahl scored a 273.65, coming in second.
The 800 free relay team of Lara, Lebl, Han and Keane finished the night in style for the women, breaking the pool record and grabbing first place with a time of 7:15.59, more than 15 seconds faster than the second-place finisher.
On the men's side, the 200 medley relay team of Nick Petersen, Will Hofstadter, Ryan Tate and Almog Olshtein started the night with a second-place finish and season-best time of 1:28.78. The team of Jack Thorne, Thanas Kountroubis, Arjun Sharma and Keegan Bundy also put in a season-best effort, finishing in sixth with a time of 1:30.99.
In the 100 breast, Hofstadter came in second with a season-best and NCAA 'B' cut time of 54.51.
First year Jeffrey Durmer and junior Tyler Lis both swam career highs in the 400 yard IM, in 3:56.22 and 4:00.79, respectively. Durmer finished in second, while Lis came in fourth.
In the 100 fly, Tate and Petersen finished in second and fifth, respectively, with Tate finishing in 48.83 and Petersen tallying a time of 49.24.
First year Liam Gately's season-best time of 1:38.75 put him in third place in the 200 free. First year Robert Cecil came in sixth with a time of 1:41.45.
In the 100 back, Thorne and Petersen finished third and fifth, respectively, both finishing with season-best times. Thorne recorded a time of 49.06, with Petersen finishing in 49.51.
Junior Ben Magliato scored a season-best 288.55 in the three meter diving event, earning second place.
The 800 free relay team of Peter Lewczyk, Gately, Cecil and Hofstadter finished the night for the Wildcats by adding a fourth-place finish.
The TYR Invitational will continue on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT.
