EVANSTON, Ill. —
The Northwestern women's swimming and diving program hosted its sixth annual Breaststroke 4 Breast Cancer event on Friday, Oct. 13, to raise money for breast cancer research at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. This year, the Wildcats had 110 participants and raised an event-record $10,000.

Held in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the hour-long swim-a-thon took place in the Norris Aquatics Center to raise money for breast cancer research and educational programs. Participants made donations to swim with teams in a relay format continually during the hour.

"It brings together the community around a great cause," senior Sydney Modeas said. "Everyone is swimming for someone or something, so everyone coming in with passion is what makes the event great."

The event raised money through participant donations, silent auction items, and a pink bake sale. All proceeds benefit the Lynn Sage Cancer Research Foundation at Northwestern Memorial Hospital and the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Center of Northwestern University.

"We really enjoy getting the whole athletic Northwestern community involved," senior Katherine Senseman said. "It's a great turnout. We get support from every team through donations, participation, showing up and cheering. It really pulls together all of Northwestern Athletics."
