EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern senior forward Nia Coffey was recognized by the U.S. Basketball Writers Association on the 2017 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award watch list, the organization announced Tuesday.

The Writers Association presents the award to the national player of the year, as voted on by the organization.

Coffey is one of 28 players on the midseason watch list and one of five from the Big Ten conference. She is averaging a double-double for the season with 19.6 points and 11.4 rebounds per game. She also averages nearly four assists and two blocks a contest. Coffey's 10 double-doubles rank 19th in the country. She leads the Big Ten and ranks eighth nationally in rebounding and recently became just the fifth player in conference history with more than 2,000 career points and 1,000 career rebounds.

With some 1,000 members worldwide, the USBWA is one of the most influential organizations in college basketball. Balloting for the organization's All-America Team and individual awards will take place in March. The awards will be presented in conjunction with the Final Four in Dallas.
