EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team has two individuals and one doubles team included in the 2016-17 ITA Preseason Rankings released Tuesday.

The top-ranked NU representative is the doubles team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp who enter the fall at No. 8 in the nation. Coming off an appearance in the NCAA Doubles Championship a year ago, the Wildcats' duo is the third-highest ranked Big Ten team. Mira Ruder-Hook and Brienne Minor of Michigan are ranked No. 3 while Miho Kowase and Anna Sanford of Ohio State are ranked fourth.

Additionally, Chatt and Lipp have earned a berth in the main draw of the main draw of the 2016 Riviera/ITA Women's All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, California. The NU team earned a spot in the field thanks to winning the doubles crown at the ITA Summer Nationals in Bloomington, Indiana, this summer for the second straight year. Main draw action gets underway Oct. 6.

In singles, both Lipp (No. 30) and Erin Larner (No. 61) earned preseason national rankings. Both individuals will compete in the qualifying round of the Riviera/ITA Women's All-American starting Oct. 4. Lipp is the third-highest ranked Big Ten single player behind only Francesca Di Lorenzo of Ohio State (No. 3) and Minor (No. 11).

Northwestern opens its fall season by hosting the Wildcat Invite Sept. 30-Oct. 2 at Vandy Christie Tennis Center.
