EVANSTON, Ill. — Northwestern University will have a strong presence in Omaha, Neb., next week (June 26 – July 3) for the 2016 U.S. Swimming Olympic Team Trials. Twenty-two current, former and future Wildcat swimmers will compete for a berth in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

The event serves as the only selection meet for the U.S. Olympic Swim Team and more than 200,000 tickets have already been purchased to sell out the eight-day competition.

The Northwestern contingent heading to Omaha is headlined by All-American Jordan Wilimovsky, who will try to qualify for the Olympic Games in the 400 free and 1,500 free events. Wilimovsky already earned an automatic berth for the Games in the 10K open water event after he captured the world title at the FINA World Championships in July of 2015.

Five-time Olympic gold medalist and Northwestern alumnus Matt Grevers will look to make a return trip to the Olympic Games when he participates in the 100 and 200 backstroke qualifying events. Grevers, who won four NCAA titles during his time in Evanston, captured gold two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and two more at the 2012 London Games.
