Dear Northwestern,
As I pack my bags for the last time, I realize that I have so much to be grateful for. When I think back to five years ago, the beginning of my time in Evanston, I realize that this experience has been far better than I ever imagined when I walked onto campus. I have made great friends, learned so much, travelled many miles representing the Cats, studied many hours, been challenged to expand my horizons, and shared many laughs and a few tears. I can tell you, it has been a great ride because of this wonderful, special Northwestern family. Not only did I get to play a game I love, I also got the opportunity to graduate with a degree from a top ranked University.
When I first considered coming to Northwestern, I was told that I would not only be a member of the Northwestern community, but I'd also be part of the Northwestern family. I have found this to be true, as this community is truly a family and I am so thankful for all of the support from everyone, from the academic advisors, to the NU for life program, to the facilities department, to the coaches, to the trainers, to my teammates and the athletes from all over the campus. Everyone in the athletic community has contributed to making my experience amazing. Everyone here is deeply committed to the success of the individual athlete and to the entire sports program. This is what makes the experience of being a Northwestern student-athlete special.
A special thank you to Tyler Jorgensen, our strength and conditioning coach, Katie Bonamer, our trainer, Meli Resendiz, our equipment manager, and Doug Meffley, our Sports Information Director. I am so thankful for the hours you unselfishly put into the softball team getting us ready to play and traveling with us during season. Although you are in the background, you are the backbone of the program. You all make this experience so much better.
To my coaches, thank you so much for everything: for the opportunity to play softball here, for the hours you spent teaching me to play the game, for your encouragement to pursue my passions in school and career, and most importantly for helping me become a better person. You have taught me so many lessons I never would have learned without you. You have made the journey worth every sprint, every weight lifted, every bullpen, every bus ride!
Thank you Northwestern! Being a Wildcat is something special. I am humbled to be part of the Northwestern family. Evanston has been home to me the past five years and I can't say thank you enough. I have cleaned out my locker for the last time, attended my last class here and taken my last test, but I will always be part of the Northwestern Athletics family. Go Cats!
Sincerely,
Amy Letourneau, Softball
