Wildcats Earn Bids to NCAA Singles and Doubles Championships

EVANSTON, Ill. -- Northwestern's women's tennis team will have a representative in both the NCAA singles and doubles competitions later this month.

Redshirt sophomore Maddie Lipp earned an at-large berth in the 64-member singles field, while Lipp and sophomore Alex Chatt received an at-large pick to the 32-member doubles field.

Lipp was ranked No. 50 in the nation by the ITA in last week's national rankings. She has been named the Big Ten Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week twice this season (Jan. 19, April 26). The Lake Forest, Illinois, native has a team-leading 23 singles wins this season, including posting an 8-1 record in Big Ten regular-season dual matches. Lipp was the singles runner-up at the ITA Midwest Regional Championships last fall as well as at the ITA Summer Nationals last summer.

Chatt and Lipp were No. 22 nationally by the ITA in last week's doubles rankings. The duo has a 23-9 record together this season, including posting eight wins over nationally ranked opponents. The NU team won the doubles crown at the ITA Summer Nationals and won the doubles consolation bracket at Riviera Women's ITA All-American.

The singles and doubles competition will be conducted May 25-30 at the Case Tennis Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma, following the conclusion of the team championship, which runs from May 19-24. The University of Tulsa will serve as host.
