Northwestern Selected as Regional Host for NCAA Tournament

EVANSTON, Ill. – Northwestern received the No. 14 overall seed and will host the first two rounds of the 2016 NCAA tournament at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center, the NCAA announced during Tuesday's tournament selection show.
 
The Wildcats (25-4) will play Valparaiso (20-5) in the first round on Saturday, May 14 at 1 p.m. Stanford (13-10) and Notre Dame (15-13) will also be in Evanston and will play at 10 a.m. The winners of each match will play on Sunday, May 15 at 1 p.m. for a spot in the Round of 16.
 
"Hosting the first two rounds of the NCAA tournament is a testament to the hard work our guys have put in all year," head coach Arvid Swan said. "We are excited to play in front of our fans as we try to advance in the tournament."
 
The first and second rounds will be played May 13-15 at 16 regional sites around the country. The final four rounds, including the national championship, are set for May 19-24 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the campus of the University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Okla.
 
Chicago's Big Ten Team is in the midst of the best season in program history. The team's 25 wins are a record, along with its .862 winning percentage. The Wildcats are a perfect 14-0 at home.
 
Northwestern is led by a trio of First-Team All-Big Ten selections. Konrad Zieba is ranked No. 20 nationally and is 21-8 this year with 14 wins over ranked opponents. Sam Shropshire is coming off a perfect 7-0 Big Ten campaign. He is 18-8 overall in 2016. Strong Kirchheimer is 28-3 overall and a remarkable 22-1 in dual matches. He is currently on a 12-match winning streak and has the second best single-season winning percentage (.903) in program history.
 
The Wildcats have been dominant in doubles this season with all three teams ranking among the very best in Northwestern history in terms of wins and winning percentage. The success has paid off with the Wildcats posting a 23-1 mark in matches where they claim the doubles point.
 
This is the fifth consecutive NCAA tournament for Northwestern and the program's 15th appearance overall.
 
The Wildcats regional draw matches up with that of No. 3 UCLA for a potential Round of 16 matchup.
 
Single day tickets for the regional cost $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and youth. Northwestern undergraduate students will be admitted for free with their WildCARD.
