5/26/2016 4:37:00 PM | Women's Tennis
TULSA, Okla. -- Northwestern's team of Alex Chatt and Maddie Lipp had their opening match of the NCAA Doubles Championship go down to the wire on Thursday afternoon before the Wildcats' duo eventually fell in a third-set superbreaker.
Chatt and Lipp jumped out to an early lead before eventually falling to Mississippi State's team of Madison Harrison and Kristina Vozniak 2-6, 6-0, 1-0 (8).
Northwestern's team came into the match ranked No. 28 in the nation by the ITA while the Bulldogs' pairing was No. 30. What appeared to be a tight matchup on paper lived up to the billing.
After the Wildcats won the first set, Harrison and Vozniak took set No. 2 to set up a deciding superbreaker third set. In the determining set, which is the first team to 10 points and needing to win by two, Chatt and Lipp held a late 8-7 lead before the Mississippi State team won the final three points to earn a spot in the Round of 16.
